WI 16th Inf Co H. Residence: Alma, Buffalo County, Wisconsin. Born “Gunnel Hansen Laagergaard” on 9 Apr 1827 at Rollag, Norway, son of Hans Gjermundsen Laagergaard and Sigri Persdatter Valle. He came to America with his parents and a brother, Gjermund, on “Emilie”, which sailed from Gothenburg, Sweden, and arrived in New York on 12 Aug 1840 Civil War: Farmer. Married. Age 35. Blue eyes, sandy hair, sandy complexion, 6’. Recruit. Enlisted for three years on 31 Dec 1863 at La Crosse, Wisconsin, and mustered there the same day. Private. “Was in the hospital all the time he was in service.” On 25 Jan 1865, he was transferred to the Veterans Reserve Corps. Post war: He was a school teacher in :Primrose, Wisconsin.
