WI 13th Inf Co H. Residence: Sugar Creek, Walworth County, Wisconsin. Born 26 Apr 1838 in Hyrssen Sogn (looks like), Gjerpen, Telemark, Norway, son of Jacob Torstensen Brandsæter and Maren Margrethe Larsdatter. He came to America at age 9 as Ola Thosseg, traveling with his parents and two brothers on “Jupiter” which arrived in Boston on 9 Aug 1847. They came to Sugar Creek Township, Walworth County. Civil War: Age 23. Farmer. Unmarried. Blue eyes, brown hair, fair complexion, 5’10”. Enlisted for three years on 14 Oct 1861 at Whitewater, Wisconsin. Mustered 2 Nov 1861 at Janesville, Wisconsin. Appointed Corporal on 4 Nov 1861. Re-enlisted 6 Feb 1864 at Nashville, Tennessee. Promoted to Sergeant on 7 Nov 1864. Appointed First Sergeant on 1 May 1865. Post war: Married Anne Jørgensdatter Nelson. Six children. Ole died 27 Jan 1912, Anne on 8 Jan 1927, and both are buried in Sugar Creek Lutheran Cemetery at Elkhorn, Wisconsin.
