Came to America with his two brothers, Peder and Johannes, and their mother, Berthe Hendriksdatter Nygaardsæter. They traveled on “Tricolor”, which sailed from Christiania and reached New York on 25 Jul 1846. Married on 17 Jun 1848 at Neenah, Wisconsin, to Pernille Christophersdatter. Civil War: Farmer. Married. Age 42. Blue eyes, light hair, ruddy complexion, 5’6”. Enlisted for one year on 31 Aug 1864 at Green Bay, Wisconsin, and mustered there the same day. Bounty $100. Private. Enlistment credited to Clayton, Winnebago County. Mustered out with his company on 26 Jun 1865 at Washington DC. Died 1 May 1888 and is buried in Grace Lutheran church cemetery in Winchester, Winnebago County.
