TX 46th Cav Co E. McCord’s Frontier Regiment. CSA. Born “Johan Johansen Vatne” on 1 May 1817 in Jaeren, Norway. Lived in Bosque County, Texas. Civil War: Enlisted for one year on 8 Mar 1862 at Stephenville, Texas. Reenlisted for three years on 20 Dec 1862 at Camp Salmon, Texas. Private. Served as a member of the Settlers “Homeguard” during the Indian War and in Texas during the Civil War. He was on wagon guard to Bosque County from 17 Apr through May 1863. Assigned as a scout. He is believed to have been killed in action on or after 17 Dec 1863, while serving as a scout.
