WI 15th Inf Co D. Residence: East Troy (or Cast Iron), Walworth County, Wisconsin. Born 1844 in Telemark, Norway. Came to America in 1862. Civil War: Age 18. Cooper. Unmarried. Blue eyes, brown hair, light complexion, 5’7¼”. Enlisted for three years on 5 Feb 1864 at Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, and mustered at Madison, Wisconsin, 17 Feb 1864. Private. Joined D Company at Strawberry Plains, Virginia. Wounded in his right arm in the battle at Kennesaw Mountain on 2 Jul 1864. Sick in general hospital 8 Aug 1864. Sick in Louisville, Kentucky, 2 Sep 1864; and in Jeffersonville, Indiana, just before that. Assigned to Company H. Temporarily assigned to the 24th Infantry. Sick in camp at Dennison, Ohio. Transferred to WI 13th Inf, Company I on 11 Jun 1865. Mustered out, on orders from Washington, D.C. on 24 May 1865 at Madison. Still due him $240 of his $300 bounty. Post war: Married Louise. Settled at Hudson, Wisconsin; later moved to Otter Tail County, Minnesota. Died 1934 at Henning, Otter Tail County. Buried in Trinity Cemetery in Henning Township.
