WI 22nd Inf Co G. Residence: Wiota, Lafayette County, Wisconsin. Born in Voss, Norway 8 Jul 1837, son of John Anderson and Maret Hovelsdatter. Immigrated that year with his parents. Civil War: Unmarried. Age 25. Enlisted for three years on 4 Aug 1862 at Monroe, Wisconsin. Mustered 2 Sep 1862 at Camp Utley, Racine, Wisconsin. Private. Promoted to Corporal on 1 Oct 1862. Wounded, shot in a hand, 20 Jun 1863 in the battle at Peach Tree Creek, Georgia. Discharged from the service for disability on 28 Jan 1863 at Danville, Kentucky. Post war: Married 15 Aug 1865 to Larsena, who was born 15 Nov 1849, daughter of Peder Davidson Skjervaheim and Martha Torstensdatter Saude. Martin and Larsena had nine children: Mary, Josephina, Better, Tom, Peter, Will, Lena, Chester and Viola. Larsena died 25 Mar 1923; Martin died 24 Mar 1925.
