Sjur came from Voss, Hordaland, to America with his parents and eight siblings on “Bjørgvin”, which sailed from Bergen about 12 May 1849 and arrived in New York on 6 Jul 1849. They came first to the Koshkonong settlement in Dane County, Wisconsin, then to Hampden Township, Columbia County, Wisconsin. Civil War: Post war: Moved to Graettinger, Palo Alto County, Iowa.
