IA 12th Inf Co B. Residence: Lansing, Iowa. Born Henrik Johannesson at Lærdal, Sogn, Norway. Civil War: Age 20. Enlisted for three years on 4 Oct 1861. Mustered at Dubuque, Iowa, 17 Oct 1861. Private. Wounded 6 Apr 1862, at Shiloh, Tennessee. Re-enlisted as a veteran on 25 Dec 1863 and re-mustered on 5 Jan 1864. Mustered out 20 Jul 1866, Memphis, Tennessee. Post war: Moved from Wisconsin to Richland County, Dakota Territory. In September 1875, while living in Owego, Richland County, Dakota Territory, he was granted a pension of $6 a month because of a gun shot wound to his right thigh.
