Civil War: Farmer. Age 39. Blue eyes, brown hair, light complexion, 5’8”. Enlisted for one year on 1 Nov 1864 at Madison, Wisconsin. Bounty $100. Mustered 16 Nov 1864. Recruit. Private. Absent without leave after 5 Jul 1865. Found to have been mustered out 22 May 1865. Post war: Died in Iola, Wisconsin, in March 1874. There are two graves with stones reading. “Gjert Jorgenson 1826-1875” and “Gjert Jorgenson 1826-1874” in Scandinavia Lutheran Cemetery, Sect. II Rows 16 and 18, Scandinavia, Waupaca County, Wisconsin.
