Absent without leave after 5 Jul 1865. Found to have been mustered out 22 May 1865. Post war: Died in Iola, Wisconsin, in March 1874. There are two graves with stones reading. “Gjert Jorgenson 1826-1875” and “Gjert Jorgenson 1826-1874” in Scandinavia Lutheran Cemetery, Sect. II Rows 16 and 18, Scandinavia, Waupaca County, Wisconsin.
