JURGENSON, Simon

WI 15th Inf Co E. Residence: Ettrick, Trempealeau County, Wisconsin. Born 15 Jun 1830 at Vang near Storhammer, Norway. Married to Johannesdatter. The couple and two daughters came to Wisconsin in 1861. Civil War: Age 35. Farmer. Married. Gray eyes, brown hair, sandy complexion, 5’9”. Enlisted for three years on 10 Feb 1864 in La Crosse County, Wisconsin, and mustered at La Crosse the same day. Private. Joined Company E at Knoxville, Tennessee. Seriously wounded in his right knee at Resacca, Georgia, 14 May 1864 and sent to Hospital. Transferred to Company H at Whiteside, Tennessee, 20 Dec 1864. Temporarily assigned to the 24th Infantry. Transferred to 13th Infantry, Company I, on 11 Jun 1864. Mustered out at Madison 8 Aug 1865 as a member of Company E. Sick at the time of his muster out. Post war: Lived at Vernon County, Wisconsin. In June 1882, he was granted a pension of $4 a month because of the wound to his right thigh. He died 18 Aug 1916 near Ettrick, Wisconsin, and was buried in the French Creek churchyard.
