WI 11th Inf Co K. Residence: Winchester, Winnebago County, Wisconsin. Born 10 Nov 1835 in Norway. Civil War: Farmer. Age 24. Unmarried. Gray eyes, light brown hair, light complexion, 6’. Enlisted 21 Sep 1861 at Neenah, Wisconsin, to serve three years. Mustered 18 Oct 1861 at Madison, Wisconsin. Private. Took part in General Curtis’ Arkansas campaign in 1862. Discharged from the service for disease (Phthisis pulmonalis) on 6 Dec 1862 at St. Louis, Missouri. On 5 Sep 1863, he enlisted for three years. He was mustered 1 Oct 1863 and was assigned to the WI 1st Hvy Arty Co C. Private. On furlough during October of 1863. Was in the battle of Missionary Ridge. In May 1865, he was listed as being held in Knoxville, Tennessee, awaiting courts martial. Mustered out with his battery on 21 Sep 1865. Post war: Married widow Margit (Halvorson) Nelson at Stearns County, Minnesota. Died at Raymond, Minnesota, 26 Apr 1910.
