Enlisted for three years on 11 Feb 1862 in Fillmore County and mustered at Madison, Wisconsin, the same day (?). Private. Sick in Lebanon, Marion County, Kentucky, and in hospital at Danville, Kentucky, in October 1862. Taken prisoner at Chickamauga, Georgia, 19 Sep 1863. Died of chronic dysentery (one report says anasarka [dropsy]) at Andersonville Prison, 28 Jun 1864. Buried there in grave 2498. On the Andersonville lists he is “J. Knudson”.
