KNUDTSON, Knudt

IA 3rd Inf Co D. Residence: Manchester Township, Freeborn County, Minnesota. Born “Knud Knudsen Maarem” on 1 Nov 1838 in Tinn, Telemark, Norway, son of Knud Thoresen Spaanheim and Gunild Tostensdatter Maarem. He came to America with his parents and four siblings on “Argo”, which sailed from Havre, France, and arrived in New York on 26 Jul 1843. They came to Muskego settlement, Wisconsin, His father died there. Knud, his mother and his brothers, T. K. Morreim and Ole K. Morreim, moved to Freeborn County, Minnesota. Civil War: Age 22. Enlisted as “Knudt Knudtson” on 20 May 1861 at Decorah, Winneshiek County, Iowa. Mustered 8 Jun 1861. Private. He was wounded in his side severely and captured on Easter Sunday, 6 Apr 1862, in the battle at Shiloh, Tennessee, and died the next day.
