WI 27th Inf Co H. Residence: Christiania, Dane County, Wisconsin. Born 26 Jul 1843 in Vardal, Oppland, Norway, son of Lars Larsen and Sophie Syvertsdatter of East Skaarstadeie. Came to America in 1861. Civil War: Farmer. Age 21. Blue eyes, light hair, light complexion, 5’4”, medium build. Enlisted for three years on 14 Aug 1862 at Christiania. Mustered 25 Oct 1862 at Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Bounty $100, $75 still due at muster out. Private. Sick at Duval’s Bluff, Arkansas, 29 Aug 1863. Left sick at Little Rock, Arkansas, 23 Mar 1864. On 27 Jun 1864, he was at Madison, Wisconsin, hospital. Absent without leave 28 Jun 1864. On 14 Sep 1864, he rejoined Company H from being absent sick at Madison, Wisconsin. Promoted to Corporal on 13 Jul 1865. Mustered out with company on 29 Aug 1865 at Brownsville, Texas. Post war: Married 14 Apr 1869 to Ingeborg Andersdatter Linaas (1844-1900). Farmed in Union County, South Dakota. Johannes was married a second time, on 8 Sep 1904, to Mary Sellberg Peterson (1856-1937). He died 12 Jan 1922 in Sioux City, Iowa. Buried in North Brule Creek Cemetery, Elk Point, South Dakota, block 1, lot 4, grave 4.
