WI 15th Inf Co K. Residence: State Line, Freeborn County, Minnesota. Born in Norway. Came to America in 1852. Lived a year in Rock County, Wisconsin; then came to Freeborn County. Civil War: Age 29. Unmarried. Enlisted for three years on 12 Dec 1861 in Freeborn County and mustered at Madison, Wisconsin, 11 Feb 1862. Designated Corporal on 1 Feb 1862. Promoted to Sergeant 1 Jul 1862. Sick in hospital at Iuka, Mississippi, in October 1862. Wounded, a gunshot wound to his ankle and foot, and taken prisoner at Chickamauga, Georgia, 19 Sep 1863. Sick at Benton Barracks in St. Louis, Missouri, in October 1864. Mustered out at Madison, Wisconsin, 20 Feb 1865. Was named Brevet (Honorary) Second Lieutenant 25 Feb 1867 with rank retroactive to 10 Nov 1864, for courage in helping mortally wounded Colonel Heg from the Chickamauga battlefield. Post war: Returned to Freeborn County after the war. In 1890, he was living in Lone Tree, Ward County, North Dakota.
