Born in Norway 29 Mar 1838, a son of Peter and Sarah Hermanson. Came to the US in 1845 to Wisconsin and eventually settled in Columbia County. Civil War: Enrolled during an Indian uprising in 1862, serving under General Sibley. Later served a year in the US Navy. Post war: Married in 1868 in Alexandria, Minnesota, to Bergithe Holing.
