LA 10th Inf (Shepherd Guards) Co A. CSA. Residence: New Orleans, Louisiana. Born about 1833 in Norway. Civil War: A laborer. Age 28. Unmarried. Enlisted at Camp Moore, Louisiana, on 22 Jul 1861. Private. “One of only two Norwegians in the entire regiment.” Deserted near Spotsylvania Court House, Virginia, on the march north to Gettysburg in June 1863. However, he is listed, in 1864, as being present for duty and was detailed to the Divisional Pioneer Corps. Received his final parole at Greensboro, North Carolina, 4 May 1865.
