Discharged from the service at Nashville for disability on 23 Feb 1863. Almost two years later, he enlisted again, this time in WI 45th Inf Co E. He then gave his residence as Madison, Dane County, Wisconsin. This second enlistment was credited to Beetown, Grant County. This enlistment was for one year and took place on 10 Feb 1865 at Madison and he was mustered there on 23 Feb 1865. Private. Promoted to Sergeant on 4 Mar 1865.
