Born “Gjermund Mathiassen Kroshuus” on 30 Mar 1835 in Sauland, Hjartdal, Telemark, Norway, son of Mathias Mathiassen Kroshuus and Anne Søndresdatter Steensrud. He came to America in 1847 to Norway Township. Civil War: Age 28. Farmer. Unmarried. Blue eyes, brown hair, light complexion, 5’6½”. Enlisted for three years on 27 Mar 1864 at Norway Township. Enlistment credited to Pewaukee, Waukesha County. Mustered 15 Apr 1864 at Madison, Wisconsin. Private. Survived the war. On his company’s final payroll, he was cited as an “Efficient soldier”. Post war: Married on 7 Oct 1865 to Hanna Magrethe Nelsdatter Narum (1831-1919). Buried at Muskego Lutheran Cemetery, Muskego, Wisconsin; stone reads “1835 – 1913”.
