Enlisted for three years on 21 Oct 1861 at Madison, Wisconsin, and mustered there on 2 Dec 1861. Private. Transferred to Company E on order of Col Hans C.Heg on 1 May 1862. Discharged from the service for disability 19 May 1863 at Murfreesboro, Tennessee. One and a half years later, he enrolled again, this time for one year, and was mustered on 10 Nov 1864 at Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, as a substitute for John Helmenstine of Ridgeway, Iowa County, Wisconsin. Private. Took part in the battle of Hatcher’s Run, Virginia, 6 Feb 1865. Sent to General Hospital on 21 Mar 1865. Post war: In 1890, he was living in Hayfield, Dodge County, Minnesota.
