WI 15th Inf Co G. Residence: Beloit, Rock County, Wisconsin. Born in the United States. Civil War: Unmarried. Age 23. Enlisted for three years on 18 Sep 1861 at Beloit and mustered at Madison, Wisconsin, 14 Dec 1861. Commissioned Second Lieutenant, Company G, 14 Jan 1862 at Chattanooga, Tennessee, with rank from 14 Dec 1861. Promoted to First Lieutenant, 8 Nov 1862, with rank from 1 Oct 1862. Was acting post adjutant, provost marshall and company commander. Became Captain on 4 Apr 1863 with rank from 23 Feb 1863. Mustered out of Company G on 3 Apr 1863 in order to accept captain’s commission with WI 15th Inf Co I. Took command the next day. Served as district provost marshall in 1863. Was on recruiting duty in 1863. Mustered out with I Company at Chattanooga, Tennessee, on 10 Feb 1865. Post war: Montgomery died in Chicago, Illinois, in 1893. He had been a prominent attorney.
