WI 45th Inf Co E. Residence: Cambridge, Dane County, Wisconsin. Born 2 Jan 1828 at Midthun Farm, Hardanger, Norway. Civil War: Age 37. Farmer. Married. Gray eyes, brown hair, ruddy complexion, 5’7”. Enlisted for three years as First Sergeant at Madison, Wisconsin, and mustered there. Discharged from WI 3rd Inf, on 4 Feb 1865 so that he could on 8 Feb 1865 accept a commission as Second Lieutenant in Company B of the Wisconsin 45th Infantry. Promoted from Second Lieutenant to First Lieutenant of Company E of the Wisconsin 45th Infantry on 6 Mar 1865. Post war: Married Sigvor Anfinsdatter Prestegaard. On 22 Aug 1891, the War Department informed the Wisconsin Adjutant General that it considered Nelson to have held a commission in the 45th, Company F as Second Lieutenant from 3 Feb 1865 and as First Lieutenant from 27 Feb 1865. Died 26 May 1905 in London, Wisconsin, in 1905. Buried at Willerup Methodist Cemetery, Cambridge, Wisconsin; stone reads “2 Jan 1828 – 26 May 1905”.
