Enlisted for three years on 15 Nov 1861 at Madison, Wisconsin, and mustered there the same day. Private. Re-enlisted for three years on 5 Jan 1864 at Natchez, Mississippi. At time of his re-enlistment he gave his residence as Albion, Dane County, Wisconsin. Wounded severely on 19 Jun 1864 near Kenesaw, Georgia. Post war: A veteran by this name, living at Granite Falls, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, in July 1881 was granted a pension of $8 a month because of a gun shot wound to his left thigh, which resulted in varicose veins.
