IA 12th Inf Co G. Residence: Sumner, Iowa. Born “Drengman Olsen Aakre” on 29 Sep 1839 in Hjartdal, Telemark, Norway, son of Ole Drengmansen Aakre and Aslaug Gunleiksdatter Kroshuus. He came to America with his parents and six siblings on “Lolland”, which sailed from Larvik and arrived in New York on 14 Aug 1848. They came to Muskego Township, Waukesha County, Wisconsin, and moved in 1854 to Lincoln Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa. Civil War: Age 23. Enlisted 28 Feb 1863. Mustered 28 Feb 1863. Private. Promoted Corporal, 1 Jun 1863. Re-enlisted & re-mustered 5 Jan 1864. Mustered out 20 Jan 1866, Memphis, Tennessee. Post war: Married Christense Andersdatter Turvold. Four children. He became a merchant in Ridgeway, Winneshiek County. He was a member of the Iowa Legislature from 1881 to 1885. He died 30 Mar 1894 and was buried in Lincoln Lutheran Cemetery, Ridgeway.
