MN Hv Arty 1st Reg Co L. Residence: Waseca, Waseca County, Minnesota. Born in Eidsvold, Norway, 14 Jan 1845, son Ole Christofferson Kinn and (Ingeborg) Marie Davidsdatter. Came to Wisconsin in 1854, moved to Minnesota in 1857. Civil War: Eyes blue, brown hair, fair complexion, 5’10”. Enlisted for one year on 6 Feb 1865 at Faribault, Minnesota. Mustered 11 Feb 1865 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Bounty $100, $33.33 paid. Private. Was in the general hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on 27 Apr 1865 to at least 16 May 1865, also July and August, 1865. Discharged from the service 6 Sep 1865 at Chattanooga, Tennessee. Post war: Lived in Waseca County. Died 11 Jan 1940 of pneumonia. John is a brother of Gilbert Oleson, who served in the same company.
