Enlisted for three years on 14 Aug 1862 at Waupaca. Mustered 5 Sep 1862 at Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Private. Engaged in the battles of Chaplain Hills, Jefferson Pike, Stone’s River, Hoover Gap, Chickamauga, the campaign to Atlanta, the campaign to Savannah, and the campaign to Goldsboro, North Carolina. He was in the battle of Bentonville, North Carolina. Promoted to Corporal on 1 May 1865. Post war: A “Benedict Olson 1832-1902” stone is in Scandinavia Lutheran Cemetery Sect.
