DT 1st Cav Co B. Born 12 Apr 1842 in Norway. Civil War: Age 21. Entered the service on 1 Oct 1863 at Sioux City, Iowa. Private. At one point Olson’s company was surrounded by Indian forces for 14 days at Tongue River. Discharged Oct 1865 at Sioux City, Iowa. Post war: Married Martha Johnson. Died at age 73 on 25 Feb 1915 of kidney poisoning in Brule Township, Union County, South Dakota, and buried there in St. Paul’s cemetery, section 1, block 1, lot 42, grave 4.
