MN 2nd Cav Co G. Residence: Linden, Brown County, Minnesota. Born “Knud Olsen Nerli” on 18 Mar 1840 in Sigdal, Buskerud, Norway, son of Ole Knudsen Nerli and Mari Guulsdatter Jokerud. He came to America with his parents and three siblings on “Embla”, which sailed from Christiania on 9 May 1849 and arrived in New York on 6 Jul 1849. They came to the Jefferson Prairie settlement in Rock County, Wisconsin; then moved about 1852 to Winnebago County, Wisconsin, and later to Linden, Minnesota. Civil War: Age 23. Enrolled 23 Dec 1863. Mustered 4 Jan 1864. Private. Served in Indian and Civil wars. Discharged from the service with his company, 29 Dec 1865. Post war: He married on 28 Jul 1867 to Synneva Mikkelson (1848-1913). Six Children. In 1890, he was living at Madelia, Brown County, Minnesota. His brother Gul served in the same unit.
