WI 15th Inf Co D. Residence: Palmyra, Jefferson County, Wisconsin. Born “Ole Olsen Skilbred” on 29 Apr 1836 in Gjerpen, Telemark, Norway, son of Ole Ellingsen Skilbred and Dorthe Kirstine Aslaksdatter Tveten. He came to America with his parents and two siblings on “Superb”, which sailed from Skien, Telemark, on 13 May 1849, and arrived in New York on 2 Jul 1849. They came to Palmyra Township, Jefferson County. Civil War: Age 26. Unmarried. Enlisted for three years on 13 Nov 1861 at Palmyra, and mustered at Madison, Wisconsin, 10 Dec 1861. Private. Sick in Chattanooga, Tennessee, 28 Nov 1863. Mustered out with D Company 13 Feb 1865 at Chattanooga. Post war: He married Marie Gilbertson. Two children.
