WI 21st Inf Co B. Residence: Winneconne, Wisconsin. Samuel Onson was born 14 Jan 1840 on Tveden farm in Birkenes Parish near Kristiansand, Norway. He was baptized Samuel Christian Aanonsen, son of Aanon Tonnessen Tveden and Berthe Gundersdatter Vestre Flaa. Civil War: Unmarried. Age 22. Farmer. Blue eyes, light hair, sandy complexion, 5’11”. Enlisted for three years on 14 Aug 1862 at Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Mustered there on 5 Sep 1862. Private. Was in the battle of Chaplain Hills 8 Oct 1862. Captured 2 Jan 1863 at Battle of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Escaped to his own lines. Wounded in the Battle of Resaca, Georgia, 14 May 1864. Mustered out 8 Jun 1865. Post war: Onson married Regina Anderson, daughter of Anders Torstensen and Anne-Marie Hansdatter, at Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Regina had been born 18 Jun 1845 in Hellefos, Hokksund, Norway. They farmed at Winneconne, Winnebago County, Wisconsin; later they moved to Lessor Township, Shawano County, Wisconsin. Samuel died 9 May 1903 at Galesburg, Wisconsin.
