Born “Ole Knudsen Oppen” on 20 Jul 1843 at Nord-Aurdal, Oppland, Norway, son of Knud Olsen Oppen and Anne Maria Haraldsdatter Tvedt. Came to America with his parents and siblings in 1847. Civil War: Farmer. Age 20. Gray eyes, brown hair, light complexion, 5’8”. Enlisted for three years on 4 Feb 1864 at Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Mustered 4 Mar 1864 at Camp Washburn, Milwaukee. Bounty paid $60 (a portion of amount due). Recruit. Private. Died of disease 23 Sep 1864 aboard the hospital Steamer “Diana” on the Mississippi River.
