IL 44th Inf Co B. Born 26 Jan 1841 in Denmark, son of Peter Petersen and Christina Nelson. Civil War: Age 23. Enrolled 7 Oct 1864. Private. Discharged from the service 25 Sep 1865. Post war: Died of uremia at age 77 on 24 Jan 1919 at Vermillion, South Dakota, and is buried there in Bluff View Cemetery. Three children survived.
