WI 15th Inf. Residence: Madison, Dane County, Wisconsin. Born in Denmark. Was a member of the Danish Army. Worked as a journalist in Madison both before and after the war. Civil War: Age 38. Enlisted for three years on 1 Dec 1861 in Dane County. Appointed Major of the 15th on 26 Dec 1861. Was sick for much of his time in uniform. Resigned and mustered out of service on 8 Jun 1862, “for being absent without leave”. Later he re-enlisted as a Private in an Illinois regiment, says Gjertveit.
