SAGEN, Kittel Kittelsen

WI 30th Inf Co B. Residence: Ridgeway, Iowa County, Wisconsin. Born 17 Dec 1844 in Bø, Nedre Telemarken, Norway, to Kittil Kittilsen Stohrmyr (Sagan) and Mari Torjusdatter Børte. They came to America on the “Salvator”, which sailed from Porsgrunn and Portsmouth, England, and reached New York on 12 July 1845. They came to Jefferson County, Wisconsin. By 1860, they were living in Ridgeway, Iowa County, Wisconsin. Civil War: Farmer. Age 17. Enlisted 15 Aug 1862. Private. Mustered out 20 Sep 1865. One year after his civil war service, he signed on again to fight the Sioux. Post war: He married Karen Semonsdatter (Carrie Simondson) on 2 April 1867. In 1880, they came to Fertile, Worth County, Iowa. He became county clerk of district court. Died 7 Feb 1909 in Fertile, and was buried at Rush Point Cemetery in Worth County.
