TX 46th Cav Co E. McCord’s Frontier Cavalry Regiment. CSA. From Skimmeland, Moster in Bømlo, Norway. Civil War: Enlisted for one year on 8 Mar 1862 at Stephenville, Texas. Reenlisted for three years or the war on 10 Jun 1863 at Camp Salmon, Texas, as a substitute for James S. Jenson, who had previously been discharged. Private. Served in Indian and Civil wars. Served in the Settlers’ “Home Guard” in the Indian wars, and in Texas units during the Civil war. He was on scout duty 27 Jun through Jul 1863. Absent on extra duty to procure clothing 12 Dec 1863 until some time in Jan 1864. Deserted on 2 Aug 1864 at Eagle Lake. Returned 4 Oct 1864 at Camp Felder. On detached service guarding Federal prisoners to Hempstead from 30 Oct until mid Nov 1864. In Brenham hospital mid Nov to mid Dec 1864. Deserted again near Bastrop on 18 Mar 1865. Post war: Elias died in Illinois in 1884. Brother of Canute R. and R. R. Skimland.
