Enlisted for three years on 15 Aug 1862 at Madison, Wisconsin. Mustered 25 Oct 1862 at Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Bounty $100, $75 still due at muster out. Appointed Sergeant on 22 Oct 1862. Sick at Madison since 1 Aug 1863. Listed “on furlough” in July 1863 regimental report. On 27 May 1864, he was reduced from Sergeant to ranks. Furloughed for 30 days on 13 Aug 1864. On 15 Sep 1864, Private Alfred G. Thompson was listed absent without leave after failing to return on 13 Sep, at the expiration of his furlough. Joined company from absent sick at Madison, Wisconsin, 7 Dec 1864. Mustered out with company on 29 Aug 1865 at Brownsville, Texas.
