Enlisted for three years on 1 Jan 1864 at La Crosse, Wisconsin. Mustered 19 Jan 1864 at Madison, Wisconsin. Private. Joined the Battery at Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on 20 Feb 1864. On 31 Aug 1864, he was shown to be on sick furlough to Wisconsin from the Marine hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. Still so listed on 30 Nov 1864. Battery report of 31 Jan 1865 shows him at Harvey Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin, but he had already been discharged for disability on 14 Oct 1864.
