Enlisted for three years on 18 Nov 1861 at Scandinavia and mustered at Madison, Wisconsin, on 20 Dec 1861. Corporal. Was with the provisions transport from Stevenson, Alabama, in October 1863. Sick in Chattanooga, Tennessee, 16 Dec 1863. Sick in Division hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, 1864. Promoted to Sergeant 1 Jan 1865. Mustered out with I Company, 10 Feb 1865, at Chattanooga. In 1886, he was living at St. Ansgar, Iowa. He died there 28 Nov 1917, and is buried there.
