WI 15th Inf Co D. Residence: Spring Prairie, Adams County, Wisconsin. Born “Torbjørn Torkildsen Kobbervig” at Vinje, Voss, Hordaland, Norway, on 30 Apr 1839, son of Torkild Torbjørnsen Kobbervig and Brita Storksdatter Tvinden. He came with his father, step-mother and two sisters on “Syttende Mai”, which sailed from Bergen about 12 May 1849 and arrived in New York on 26 Jun 1849. They came to Leeds Township, Columbia Coounty, Wisconsin. Civil War: Age 21. Unmarried. Enlisted for three years on 8 Nov 1861 at Spring Prairie, and mustered at Madison, Wisconsin, 10 Dec 1861. Private. Sick in Bowling Green, Kentucky, 4 Nov 1862. Wounded at Chickamauga, Georgia, 19 Sep 1863, and sent to hospital at Nashville, Tennessee. Was absent without leave. Mustered out with Company on 13 Feb 1865 at Chattanooga, Tennessee. Post war: Married Ingeborg (1853-1928). Died 28 May 1904. Buried in Spring Prairie Cemetery, De Forest, Wisconsin.
