THORSNES, Ole

CSA. Born “Ole Johnson Eide” in 1836 at Gulen, Sogn og Fjordane, Norway, a son of John Olsen Eide and Gjetlaug Olsdatter Fleische. He came to America with his parents and four siblings on “Dorothea”, which sailed from Bergen and reached New York on 5 Jul 1848. They came to Dunkirk Township, Dane County, Wisconsin, and moved by 1855 to Vienna Township, Dane County. The family adopted the surname Thorsness. Civil War: Ole served with the Confederate Army and was said to have died during the war. His younger brother Charles Johnson served with the Wisconsin 23rd Infantry. Sources: (Naeseth ’48-394)
