Enlisted for three years on 25 Oct 1861 at Chilton, Wisconsin, and mustered 30 Jan 1862 at Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Private. Took part in the battles at Shiloh, Tennessee, 7 Apr 1862; Corinth, Mississippi, 3 & 4 Oct 1862; taken prisoner in battle. Paroled. Returned to duty on 18 Jan 1863.
