TORGERSON, Talleff

MN Lt Arty 2nd Battery. Residence: Dakota County, Minnesota. Born 15 Jun 1831 in Homan, Rauland, Vinje, Telemark, Norway, a brother to Civil War soldiers Kittle and Knud Torgerson. They came to America in 1859 to Dakota County, Minnesota, near Farmington. All three were married. Tolleff on 10 Oct 1855 had married Guro Halvorsdatter. Twelve children. Civil War: Age 33. Blue eyes, light hair, light complexion, 5’7½”. Enrolled for one year on 22 Aug 1864. Mustered 31 Aug 1864. Bounty $100. Recruit. Private. Was in a hospital at Chattanoogas, Tennessee, from 26 Oct 1864 to 25 Nov 1864. Discharged from the service with the Battery, 16 Aug 1865. Post war: In 1869 he was living near Wilmar, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota. Later, he went to Fosston, Polk County, Minnesota, and became a farmer. He died 13 Jun 1918 and is buried in Poplar River Cemetery at Fosston.
