WI 15th Inf Co I. Residence: Scandinavia, Waupaca County, Wisconsin. Born at Besteland, Saetersdalen, Norway. Civil War: Age 27. Unmarried. Enlisted for three years on 5 Nov 1861 at Scandinavia and mustered at Madison, Wisconsin, 20 Dec 1861. Private. Sick in Bridgeport, Alabama, on the 15th, 16th and 18th of September 1863. Seriously wounded in his right hand at Resaca, Georgia, 16 May 1864, and was in Nashville, Tennessee, 27 May 1864. Sent to a hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. Discharged from the service there for his wounds, 2 Feb 1865. In 1866, Torkilson moved to Glenwood, Minnesota. He became Sheriff and was three times Register of Deeds in Pope County, Minnesota.
