Civil War: Served as a soldier, then as a seaman on board the frigate “Saratoga”. He was awarded two medals, one as a soldier, the other as a seaman. After the war, he went back to Norway to Stavanger where he lived out his life. He drew a pension from the USA. Sources: (Rygg p52)
