WINGAARD, Ole V.

WI 15th Inf Co K. Residence: Decorah, Winneshiek County, Iowa. Born 27 Oct 1836 in Christiania, Norway. Came to America and to Decorah, in 1860. Married to Martine Gulbranson on 23 Jan 1862 at Washington Prairie church. Civil War: Enlisted for three years on 23 Jan 1862 in Winneshiek County and mustered at Madison, Wisconsin, 11 Feb 1862. Private. Was on Military Police duty in October 1862. Seriously wounded at Stone’s River, Tennessee, 31 Dec 1862, and sent to a hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. Became unfit for service and was discharged for disability due to his wounds at Louisville, Kentucky, 27 Apr 1863. Post war: He and his wife had six children. He became a tailor. Martine Wingaard died in July 1876 in Washington Prairie. Wingaard in 1893 was living in Decorah, Iowa. In August 1904, he married Mrs. Anna Hegge. Ole Wingaard died at Decorah on Sunday, 18 Jul 1915, and is buried in the Lutheran Cemetery there.
