This two piece, machine-sewn, ankle length, dress with hand finishing is made of a very dark blue closely woven wool in plain weave and fulled. The bodice is close fitting and closed down the front with hooks, covered over with seven cloth covered buttons. The sleeves are long and roomy with buttons and velvet ribbon detail at the wrists. The skirt is long, full, and closely pleated, with a five inch wider reinforcement around the hem. There is a 23″ long black shoulder cape of fine wool in damask weave lined with wool crepe.

The dress was made and worn by Anna Hansdatter Herried Legreid (November 19, 1855-July 1943), who was born in Eidfjord Hardanger and emigrated to Baldwin, Wisconsin in 1885.
