Rectangular, pegged construction box with slightly rounded cover. Hand-wrought iron hinges and spiraled grasp on cover. Front, back, and sides decorated with a variety of chip carved designs. Cover has line carved motif with elements of cross and Celtic knot.

Box was brought to the United States in 1867 by the donor’s grandparents, Ola Nilsson Vangsnes and Anne Johannesdatter Fidkje, from Sogn, Norway. The box was made by Anne’s father Johannes Johanessen Oksdal (1792-1862).
