Emil Bjørn was born in Christiania (now Oslo), Norway in 1864. He studied art at the Royal Norwegian School of Drawing and in Paris before emigrating to the United States in 1887. After settling in Chicago, he continued his studies at the Chicago Art Institute. Bjørn made his living as a sculptor, painter, illustrator, and caricaturist. He died in 1934.
