Arnold Klagstad was born in Marinette, Wisconsin in 1898. After serving as a radio operator in the U.S. Navy during World War I, he briefly studied to become an electrician but instead chose the path of an artist. He attended the Minneapolis School of Art and the Fontainebleau School of Art in Paris. As the son of the altar and portrait painter August Klagstad, he gained further instruction by working in his father’s studio in Minneapolis during the 1920’s. He was a founding member of the Minnesota Artists Association and exhibited at the Minneapolis Institute of Art and the Chicago Norske Klub. Klagstad died in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1954.
