May Heartness Faaland was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1923 to Norwegian immigrant parents. Throughout May’s life, she wanted to get more education and took classes at several places in California. She painted wherever the family lived and took watercolor lessons later in life. Eventually, she settled in Brooklyn where she was a member of the Norwegian Arts and Crafts Club. Faaland died in Napa, California in 1984.
